Lost in Translation: why parents should teach their children Tagalog (or why some shouldn’t apply for interpreter jobs)

While at dinner last night, my friend Nicole gave me an example of how her fragmented knowledge with Tagalog got her in trouble (granted, she probably shouldn’t have gotten herself in this situation in the first place, but she was raised in the Philippines).
